Morning Coffee in Costa Rica Paradise

Tags :

While sitting here in my home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I was thinking back to my recent trip and my experience in Costa Rica.

My favorite time of the day, has always been, and especially in Costa Rica, the morning. I enjoy having a cup of coffee and relaxing as I plan my daily activities.  What I really enjoyed about my morning coffee while in Costa Rica, was the ability to open the doors in the Villa and let the breeze flow through, while sitting on the patio near the pool listening to the tropical birds and the jungle animals.

The plethora of colorful birds in Costa Rica was very impressive. In Minnesota we have robins, blackbirds, blue jays, cardinals and sparrows primarily.  Although these birds are beautiful, and mildly colorful, they are not near as colorful and vibrant as the birds of Costa Rica.  The Scarlet macaw or Lapas as it is called in Costa Rica, is amazingly beautiful.

On my recent trip, we did make a few trips to the beaches, however on my next trip I think I will make more trips to the beach.  I have never seen a whale in its natural habitat, so this is on my checklist of things to do. I have also wanted to go deep sea fishing, and this is another item on my bucket list.

I appreciated the fact that the villas are well-equipped with washer and dryer and microwave and for kitchen, however I did not need to take advantage of those amenities. Personally, I enjoy dining out for most of my meals, so that is what I did on this first trip.  Similarly, the swimming pool was available, however I did not take advantage of that either.  The pool is however, a wonderful place to sit and enjoy nature.

Most people go to Northern Costa Rica because it is familiar to them with the capital of San Jose being there. Fewer people come down to visit in the Osa Peninsula area, only because they are not aware of how easy it is to access. There is a small airport at Palmar Sur that is very close by, and also a hospital, small city and only minutes from the beach.

I encourage you to inquire about the multiple properties, amenities, tours and opportunities provided by Osa Property Management.

My first trip to Costa Rica (MagicBrad)

I recently took my very first trip to Costa Rica.

I have been to Brazil,  Paraguay, Jamaica, Hawaii, Thailand, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, and Bali. But this was my first trip to Costa Rica.

My preconceived image of Costa Rica was very green, lush and a rain forest jungle.  So, this is what I was expecting when we landed in Liberia.  However, if you are familiar with Costa Rica, you know that the northern part around Liberia is more flat and less jungle.  We rented a car at the Liberia airport, and headed our way, south down the coast line.

As we headed further south, the greenery and foliage rapidly, became much more apparent.

My friend Nick, did the driving, so I was able to look out the windows and take in the sights.  By the time we arrived at our destination, it was dark.  So we went to bed, and got some good rest for the big day tomorrow.

The photo below is Nick while we were having our morning coffee.

I am an early riser, and really enjoy listening to the birds and animals as they are waking in the morning also. The howler monkeys are abundant in Costa Rica.  With Costa Rica being a tropical location, the birds are all very colorful.  The scarlet macaws are a common site. They tend to travel in pairs, because I guess they mate for life.  One of my most memorable sides was when we saw eight scarlet macaws flying through the sky, and they were in four pairs.  The scarlet my car is a very vibrant red, blue, green and yellow.

We also had some chance to see toucans.  That took in is a very intriguing site and they had their beak is about the same size as their body.  When they fly, it seems like they would flip upside down.

One of my favorite nature sightings is the blue Morpho butterfly.  It is a huge butterfly.  The wings are blue on one side, and gray on the other. However I swear that I saw them as blue and orange.  I must have been hypnotized by the beauty of Costa Rica. LOL.

Check out this tree. Even tree bark in Costa Rica is colorful!

We also took some trips to the beaches  and waterfalls.  I understand that Costa Rica is self-sustaining using hydroelectric power.  Getting energy from natural resources intrigues me. I am also intrigued that Costa Rica does not have a military. From what I understand, they use the money for education rather than the military.

I could go on and on about the many sites and activities however I would prefer that you came yourself.

I hope to see you in Costa Rica.

Our Costa Rican Architect is heading back home via Sansa Airlines

Tags :

Dennis, the Costa Rican architect is heading back home. We spent a couple days working on the Event Center project, surveying out the land, and getting the direction and layout of how the building will sit on the property. The west east direction is important for airflow, and is affected by the ocean tides.

He was very conscious of the direction, to allow the best air-flow coming into the jungle area, and also maximizing space for the various activities that we will be hosting here. (Destination Weddings, Yoga Retreats, Workshops, Business Masterminds, Fundraisers and Celebrations. We learned a lot from this experience.

The airline, if you are curious was Sansa, which is a very affordable and efficient airline for those that prefer not to drive from San Jose. (Although it is a beautiful drive some people would just like to get here to their destination ASAP and relax into our secluded spaces, and enjoy the natural habitat of the rainforest.) We can understand that.

If you are interested in Costa Rica as a destination for a celebration, retreat or special event, please give us a call with questions.

Also, if you are interested in this Event Center Project, we will be looking for a variety of vendors, caterers, retreat coordinators, wedding and event planners to wrk with us as we advance in this project.

The Vision for the Costa Rica Event Center

Costa Rica Event Center

We are very excited about a new planned project for the Osa region of Costa Rica which will be a Costa Rica Event Center. The

owners of Las Villas de San Buenas have been working for several years on the idea and location for the Costa Rica Event Center, while at the same time I was tirelessly looking for the right in-country partner to engage with, in order to build my dream of an event center in Costa Rica.  Collectively, we have been working behind the scenes for several years to get it to this point and now they are starting to share a bit of information at this time. Nick Halverson and I have known each other for years - and our timing was perfect.

Vision for the Costa Rica Event Center

The vision for the Costa Rica Event Center is a destination to host a hybrid of events, including, but not limited to:

  • Travel & tourism
costa rica retreat center yoga land survey

Survey of the land, with trees marked, for the Costa Rica retreat center

  • Costa Rica Real estate investing training and tours
  • Yoga (scheduled locally and yoga retreats)
  • Writers Retreats
  • Entrepreneurial Mastermind Events
  • Photography Retreats
  • Corporate Training
  • Corporate Retreats
  • Pilates
  • We will also rent out the space to other retreat leaders who would like a beautiful space and location
  • Self-renewal events...the ideas are endless.

With an event center at its hub, and private cabinas within 100 yards, this project promises exciting opportunities for retreat coordinators, event planners, wedding planners, tour operators, real estate investors, and the local community for private events.

Our live event opportunities provide participants a platform for people to meet people on a social as well as business level. The types of events will range from yoga retreats, business masterminds, hands on workshops, educational seminars, destination weddings, renewal of vows, honeymoons, tours, activities and attractions.

Environment is Intertwined with the Design

We have surveyed the area, cleared an old logging road (from 50 years ago) and marked all old-world and protected trees with costa rica retreat center tree GPS, to ensure we have minimal impact on the existing land. Our planned location of the Costa Rica retreat center located adjacent to a quebrada (stream/creek) that flows all year (including during the dry season). Thanks to the jungle tree canopy, it is rarely too sunny or too hot (it can get a bit humid – you are in a tropical rain forest after all!) and given the proximity to the creek, simply take a refreshing dip to cool off.

In fact, not only is it planned to be in the middle of a jungle, next to a river, but it is also only a five minute walk to an amazing waterfall.

Retreats

Hollywood star, John Kapelos (R) (The Shape of Water, The Breakfast Club) and Poet Zach Roz (L) enjoy the nearby waterfall during their time at the Writers' Retreat of San Buenas

The basic concept of a retreat is to get away from your daily routine so that you can see things from a fresh new perspective. Retreat opportunities are available for yoga and Pilates practitioners, we also do writers retreats, photography retreats, as well as spiritual and personal development retreat.

Workshops, Seminars, Clinics

These types of events will be for coaches and consultants to work with their clients on expanding their projects and business. It is not all about business however. For example, golf clinics could available for helping golfers up their game, and being able to practice and play at the nearby golf course. Workshops, seminars and clinics may also be about a specific profession for example photography. Photographers need to learn about the latest techniques technology and equipment. Real estate investors need to learn about the market and learn from experienced professionals.

Entrepreneur Masterminds

Mastermind events are designed to get clients through various stages in the lifecycle of their business growth. Sometimes costa rica retreat center creekbusiness owners reach a plateau and can not understand why they are not growing. By masterminding with other entrepreneurs, business owners and business leaders can learn ideas and insights from others that may have had a similar challenge. No matter what level in the organization someone is, or the size of the business, it is always a good idea to reflect, and possibly, rethink, processes in order to break through business challenges.

Destination Weddings and Vow Renewals

Getting married to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with should be memorable.costa rica destination wedding The event itself and the environment should also be unique. Imagine going through your wedding photo album and seeing pictures in exotic rain forest settings and tropical plants and animals.

Another wonderful Costa Rica wedding option is to have your ceremony at one of the numerous beaches here in the Osa/Bahia Ballena region. The sounds of the waves crashing, the sun beginning its beautiful blaze orange decent at the end of the day, and you and your guests may be lucky enough to see whales or dolphins in the ocean (depending on the time of year).  Let us help you and your special someone, begin your new life together, with an amazing Costa Rica destination wedding.

We can provide you with a turn-key in-country wedding solution for you and your guests. We work with several hotels in the area and can also provide vacation home rental options.

We are in the final planning stages of the Costa Rica Event Center, and every day we are more optimistic about hosting future events at what will be an amazing Costa Rica destination. In the meantime, if you have an interest in photography as a beginner or professional, we invite you to attend our next Costa Rica Photography Retreat.

More details are available HERE and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or text my mobile phone. We will continue to update everyone on the status and designs as they become available.

If you are an Event Planner or Retreat Coordinator, and would like to book your event(s) on our property, call and let's chat.

Also, if you have an interest in becoming a partner, collaborator, event planner or even an investor, please feel free to inquire about our opportunities and options for expansion and growth. We are excited!

Best Activities in Costa Rica include ziplines and photography retreats

Tags :

A common question we receive is ‘what are the best activities in Costa Rica’. The answer isn’t so simple. It depends on activity levels and interests, however, we recommend ziplines and retreats. That’s right…retreats

Best Activities in Costa Rica

There are countless ways to enjoy the amazing country of Costa Rica. Undoubtedly, if you have looked into visiting Costa Rica, I am sure you have noticed that zip lining is a popular activity. In addition, to zip lining through the treetops of the rain forest, here are a few other activities you might enjoy during your time in Costa Rica (Osa Property Management can line all of these tours up for you, simply contact us):

  • Visit a rain forest. There several different options nearby, some on public lands and some in private preserves. nauyaca waterfall costa rica
  • Waterfalls: Nauyaca Waterfall and El Pavon (“the stuck rock” waterfall).
  • There are several nearby National Parks, including Bahia Ballena (Whales Tail in Uvita), Manuel Antonio (the most popular tourist destination in Costa Rica), Chiripo (the tallest peak in Costa Rica of over 13,000 feet), Piedras Blancas National Park and Corcovado National Park (National Geographic has stated that Corcovado National Park is the most bio-diverse and bio-intense place on the planet).
  • White water rafting.  There are all sorts of levels for beginners to advanced to experience the white water rapids in the Osa Peninsula and surrounding area.Costa Rica cacao making

  • Coffee and chocolate (cacao fruit) are a popular commodity in Costa Rica.  The environmental factors and climate of the mountains in Costa Rica are an ideal environment for growth of coffee and chocolate.  We can arrange a tour of a coffee plantation or a “make your own hot chocolate from cacao educational experience”.

  • Yoga classes and retreats or massages, all led or performed by experienced leaders.

  • Surfing. Even if you’ve never surfed, we can line up a half-day of surfing with a professional, and if you don’t get up and surf, you don’t pay for the lesson. What an awesome guarantee!

  • Fishing: Deep-sea fishing or freshwater fishing: The southern pacific coast of Costa Rica is world-renown for its diversity of fishing, including dorado, sailfish and tuna. We also know several locals that offer freshwater fishing options in the hand fishing costa rica spoolsintercoastal waterways and rivers nearby. This is an entirely different type of fishing as there are no poles used. Simply a reel of fishing line, a hook with some bait and a sinker.

  • Golfing: There is one golf course in the Osa Peninsual and that is San Buenas Golf Resort.

  • Whale-watching and dolphin watching.
  • Turtle sanctuary.

How Many Species of Costa Rica Monkey

Tags :

White faced/headed capuchin monkey photographed in Costa Rica (c) Osa Property Management

Costa Rica Monkey Species

According to National Geographic, Costa Rica is home to over 5% of the world's plant and animal species, and included in that amazing list is the four types of Costa Rica Monkey.

Considering there are over 250 different species of monkey found throughout the world, the fact there are only four is surprising. By contrast there are over 1,300 species of orchids found in Costa Rica.

The four species of Costa Rica monkey are:

  • Central American squirrel monkey
  • White-headed capuchin monkey
  • Mantled howler monkey
  • Spider monkey

There is only one location in Costa Rica where all four species of monkeys are found, and that is inside Corcovado National Park. We can help line up tours for you and your group if you are interested in visiting Corcovado National Park.

In the Osa region of Costa Rica, it is quite common to hear howler monkeys on a daily basis. They are typically heard just before sunrise, thirty minutes before sunset and anytime in-between if they feel threatened or want to communicate. The howler monkey's "grunt" sometimes confuses first time visitors to Costa Rica into thinking they are hearing a large dog bark.

Technically speaking, all four species natively found in Costa Rica are classified as "New World Monkeys". For more information about these monkeys please visit the Wikipedia page dedicated to Costa Rica monkey.
