We think you can probably tell by the photo above that we recently had a very fun evening - which was for a very good cause. Anytime we spend time with friends, enjoy great food AND make a difference in the community - that makes a great evening! We attended the Halloween Spooktacular/fundraiser at The Bamboo Room restaurant in Ojochal for the El RefUgio Costa Ballena Benefit. This is a yearly event that raises money for El RefUgio Costa Ballena which is an animal rescue organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption, of abandoned dogs and cats in the Costa Ballena region.
El RefUgio Costa Ballena Benefit also will use the funds raised to reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats by hosting low cost spay and neuter clinics throughout the region. The work this organization does is performed primarily with the help of only volunteers and donations, so every dollar and colon matters.
The Bamboo Room generously hosted this event and held numerous raffles and giveaway's to raise money for this wonderful organization. Many people dressed up in Halloween attire as their favorite animal, while others like us, brought life sized pictures of their pets face attached to a stick and we would hold these pictures up in front of our faces for interesting camera shots. A big shout out to the Bamboo Room for supporting this very important event that was very well attended. There was enough money raised to spay/neuter approximately 50 dogs and cats. More information and tax deductible donations can be made by visiting the El Refugio Costa Ballena website.
Needless to say, we had some fabulous chicken wings for dinner and enjoyed the live music of "The Bamboo Jam Band" who played a good variety of music to entertain the diverse group of people.
There are always lots of fun things to do in the Southern Pacific Zone of Costa Rica...this was just another "typical" evening of friends and fun (along with some fundraising for a much needed cause).
We will definitely add the El RefUgio Costa Ballena Benefit to our social calendar for next year. We hope to see you here next year too!
