If you are planning to travel to Costa Rica from December 2021 these are the updated Costa Rica Covid-19 Entry Requirements dictated by the government. The requirements for international travellers and citizens and residents are different.

*Note: This is an update to our previous post.

Requirements for International Tourists

Health Pass

All international tourists must have the electronic epidemiological Health Pass form completed within 72 hours of arrival to Costa Rica.

Click on the following link to complete your Health Pass here: https://salud.go.cr.

The Health Pass generates a QR Code that is required upon arrival (via air, land or sea ports). Your airline may also ask to see that it has been completed prior to your departure from the airport (they won’t scan it – they may just ask you to show them the QR code).

This Health Pass must be completed for every person in your traveling group, including minors.

Requirements for Citizens and Residents

Health Pass

All Costa Rican citizens and residents must have the electronic epidemiological Health Pass form completed 72 hours before arrival to Costa Rica.

Complete your Health pass here: https://salud.go.cr

The Health Pass generates a QR Code that is required upon arrival (via air, land or sea ports).

This Health Form is individual, so it must be completed per person, including minors.

Citizens and Residents already must have health insurance provided by the Costa Rica government via the Caja.

Residents should have proof they’re up-to-date on Caja payments. This can be verified at: https://sfa.ccss.sa.cr/servMedicos/validarDerechos.do

If residents are not up to date with their Caja payments, they must purchase an Insurance Policy covering at least 22 days in Costa Rica. The requirements for this policy are the same as if they were a tourist.

More important information

If I own property in Costa Rica, do I still need insurance?

You still need health insurance if you are unvaccinated. However, proof of property ownership can waive the lodging expenses requirement for your insurance policy. Send an email to [email protected], and they can confirm if you qualify.

Do I need to show a negative Covid-19 Test upon arrival?

The Government of Costa Rica does not require tourists entering by air, land or sea to present a negative COVID-19 test, nor quarantine upon arrival.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
From December 1, 2021 to January 7, 2022, commercial establishments must display their operation modality on their exteriors, indicating whether proof of vaccination via the QR code generated through the Health Pass is required to enter. Commercial establishments that do not require the QR code must operate under limited capacity. Minors will not be required to present proof of vaccination.
